Horses have been an integral part of my life for over 51 years. My journey began when I rode my first horse at just three weeks old with my mom, who continues to ride today at the remarkable age of 78. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of riding various horses across a wide array of disciplines, including reining, hunter over fences, stadium jumping, cross-country jumping, dressage, ladies’ sidesaddle, Western, English, hunter on the flat, equitation, trail riding, and competitive and endurance riding (25 and 50 miles), among others.
Horses are my passion and my peace. From the quiet joy of brushing them to the soothing sound of their gentle munching on hay, every interaction brings me calm and relaxation. The way my horses greet me with a warm whinny makes every visit special. As my children, now 17 and 21, have grown more independent, my equestrian pursuits have become an even greater source of fulfillment.
In 2024, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a life-changing moment that has deepened my appreciation for the healing power of horses. Living with MS has brought physical challenges and moments of uncertainty, but my connection with horses has been a vital source of strength. Riding and caring for my horses provides physical activity that helps improve balance, coordination, and muscle tone—areas often impacted by MS.
Beyond the physical benefits, the emotional support I receive from my horses is immeasurable. Their calm and intuitive nature brings peace during times of stress and uncertainty, while their companionship reminds me to stay grounded and resilient. My equestrian lifestyle has become an integral part of my personal wellness journey, proving that horses can be a powerful ally in facing life’s challenges.
I also love the competitive side of riding. Striving to perfect my craft brings a deep sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. In 2024, I achieved a lifelong dream by becoming a National Champion at the US Arabian Nationals in two Western Pleasure classes with my horse, Gin J.
Horses do more than bring joy—they have a profound ability to positively impact people’s lives. For individuals who have experienced trauma or are living with conditions like autoimmune diseases, horses provide a therapeutic outlet. The connection formed with these majestic animals fosters healing, reduces stress, and builds a sense of trust and purpose.
Hippotherapy, a form of equine-assisted therapy, uses the horse’s movement to improve physical, occupational, or speech therapy outcomes. It has been transformative for individuals with conditions like PTSD, autism, and cerebral palsy. The horse’s rhythmic motion helps improve balance, coordination, and muscle strength while instilling confidence and emotional well-being.
For me, the equestrian lifestyle has been about more than just riding—it’s been a way to build lifelong friendships and meaningful connections. My horse community has profoundly impacted me, and I hope I’ve done the same for others.
This passion also supports my real estate career, as the trust and relationships I’ve developed within the horse world naturally extend to helping clients make informed decisions about primary, secondary, and vacation properties.
The journey has been one of incredible highs and lows, from exhilarating victories to learning from losses. Through it all, horses have brought joy, growth, and a deep sense of purpose to my life.
Whether you’re seeking peace, healing, or simply a new adventure, I encourage you to explore the world of horses—it’s an experience like no other.
